Flåvær

Flåvær is a small group of islets and rocks in Herøyfjord in the municipality Herøy, located in the county Sunnmøre at the west coast of Norway, and includes the islands Flåvær, Husholmen, Torvholmen and Varholmen. The archipelago was inhabited until the mid 1990 's.

The boat house on Flåvær has been used for trade, fishery, shop and postoffice, and have historical descriptions dating back to the early 1600 's. The boats often lay here waiting for better weather. Today the island is used as a holiday center for private persons, but some of the buildings are also rented out for various purposes.

The schoolhouse on Flåvær was moved from Berge, nearby Fosnavåg, and rebuilt on the island Flåvær in 1929. The school was first disused in 1961, but later reopened for 1 student in the period 1981-1984.

The lighthouse at Flåvær is located on Varholmen, and became operational in 1870. The lantern is placed on top of the lighthouse keeper's house. In 1914 the lighthouse building was remodeled, a new light was installed, and height of the light was increased by 1,1 meters to 16,8 meters above sea level. In 1952 the lighthouse got electric power, and as a backup source a diesel engine generator was installed. The lighthouse was later unmanned and automated in 1979.

Flåvær Lighthouse is located on the small island Varholmen, which is one of several islands called Flåvær. The lighthouse was put into service 1870 and automated and unmanned in 1979. Flåvær is located on the vestern part of Norway, southwest of Fosnavåg. This is a high resolution picture, stiched together by 9 single exposures | Flåvær Fyrstasjon ligger på den vesle øya Varholmen, som er en del av øygruppa Flåvær. Fyrstasjonen vart sett i drift i 1870, og automatisert og ubemanna fra 1979. Flåvær er lokalisert på vestkysten av Norge, sørvest for Fosnavåg.
